Premium You say?

Blog, time again i see! We've been asked to review a site featured on The Best Designs, we can choose any one we like and state the pro's and con's. It's a good open ended homework, let's stop messing about and get into it, eh?

The Link that i chose to review was this little, (admittedly first page) beauty. I had a good ol' browse of the other pages too, but nothing quite ticked the boxes in the same way.

Premium Pixels is a website dedicated to providing web designers with free resources, it's run by one guy called Orman, and everything he puts online is completely free to use, whether you're a corporation or a lone programmer.
1) The site is set out in a sort of Blog-Like way, which makes it very familar with most people who'll be visiting the site. It's got some gorgeous fonts rockin' those headers and the simple colour scheme is serene where it needs to be and eye-catching in all the right places. However, compared to more adventurous websites, it could be criticised as, dare i say, boring.
2) The logo acts as a simple Homepage navigation as well as looking, as the kids call it "Fly". The differentiation between fonts makes for a nice contrast, the stitched edges are a ice touch too.
3) With bright colours and clear text. It's obvious that something is free. You may not know what to do with it. But it's there if you need it. These frequent image boxes clearly represent what's up for grabs and help towards the almighty "Woods Law Of 3 Clicks".
4) These little boxes on the side provide a small, but healthy dose of advertising. (Like one glass of Red a day is supposed to be).
They help support our dear designer here, however, if i were in the market for a good ol' buy, i'd like a bit of a description please! Just a sentence or two beneath it. The text in the little black highlights, though it looks good, is tough to read and on something quite techy, it's good to be clear.
5) The Black (Or more carbon fibre looking) highlighted text looks phenomenal, and may be an idea that i just HAVE to steal. They highlight phrases much more effectively that just bold or underlining something. See?

To finish up; i like it.
It's clear, punchy and soft. the type of website that you could joyfully peruse all day without risking onset epilepsy or eye strain.

  1. An interesting choice Josh. Your comment that it looks like a blog is valid seeing as the fact that that it is powered by Wordpress (similar to Blogspot). Powering your websites using a blog allows you to update your content easily. Something I am looking into at the moment is how you integrate a blog template into your website and yet be able to customise the design etc. Will let you know if I figure this out.

I like that you have posted several links and a picture in this post. It certainly enhances the post and I have enjoyed reading it.

    Keep Blogging!
